Seiko Prospex 1975 Tuna Automatic Blue Dial Blue Silicone Strap Mens Watch SLA041J1 The Case: This Seiko Prospex 1975 Tuna SLA041J1 shape is affectionately nicknamed by Seiko fans as a Tuna because of its larger diameter and bold shape like a tuna tin loved for decades since its release. Plus its case back shows the new ISO standard stating its divers watch capability and metre depth for saturation diving. A remarkable waterproof one-piece structure enables this watch to withstand depths of 1,000 meters. In a 2020 watch industry first, the grade of stainless steel in this watch, Seikos Ever-Brilliant Steel, is more corrosion-resistant than in most luxury watches today and only usually used in the marine industry. In terms of measurements, the case has a large diameter of 52.4mm and a thickness of 17.4mm making for easy visibility and a resilient timepiece. On top of the case is a black dive timer bezel which has a unidirectional feature to prevent the timer from being knocked out of place. Also, the markers on the bezel have a luminous coating for an easy to read display. As is seen in other Seiko divers watches, a rose gold crown sits at 4 oclock which again reduces the chance of a knock. Further reinforcing the dial is sapphire crystal glass which is known for its strong yet classy look. Additionally, an anti-reflective coating is present on the glass which prevents any glare from the sun to a divers torch. The Dial: The blue dial features simplified indices making it easy to read underwater. Both these indices and hands feature Seikos own luminous coating, which is called LumiBrite, to allow for easy visibility at night or the unknown of the ocean. Replacing the 3 oclock index is a date window which uses the same colour scheme as the dial, a black dial and white markers. The chapter ring displays the seconds in standard line markers, again a simple yet effective style. The Strap: The blue accordion-style silicone strap combines high durability and comfort a strap design invented by Seiko in 1975 as a practical solution to the expansion and contraction of a divers wrist at different depths. A standard buckle can then be easily fastened to sit comfortably around your wrist. The Functions: Power to the watch is provided by an automatic movement. The calibre used in particular is a Seiko exclusive, called the 8L35. An automatic movement is powered by kinetic movement and once kick started should keep time due to the natural notion of the wrist throughout the day. Moreover, the calibre has a manual wind capacity whereby power can be supplied by spinning the crown. A power reserve of 50 hours allows you to put the watch and your wet-suit away for the weekend to come back to on Monday morning. 26 jewels all work independently to provide an accuracy of +15 to -10 seconds per day which is seen as a standard in divers watches. Yet another feature of the movement is a stop second hand function which stops the second hand once screwed out. This allows for precision timing in crucial moments.
